Director of Bands
Dr. Joseph Gray serves as Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands at the Ä¢¹½Ä¢¹½, where he oversees the university band program and teaches courses in conducting, ensemble performance, and trumpet. A versatile educator, conductor, and performer, he previously served on the faculty at Mississippi State Ä¢¹½Ä¢¹½ and has also taught at the Ä¢¹½Ä¢¹½ of Alabama in Huntsville. Dr. Gray holds degrees in trumpet performance from the Ä¢¹½Ä¢¹½ of Wisconsin–Madison, the Ä¢¹½Ä¢¹½ of New Mexico, and California State Ä¢¹½Ä¢¹½, Long Beach.
An active performer, Dr. Gray serves as Principal Trumpet of the Shoals Symphony Orchestra and has performed with orchestras throughout the Southeast, including the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. He is also a Senior Instrumentalist and Staff Sergeant in the United States Army, currently serving with the 313th Army Band at Redstone Arsenal. In addition to his collegiate teaching, Dr. Gray is active nationally as a clinician, arranger, adjudicator, and brass educator with drum and bugle corps, honor bands, and music festivals across the country.
